Yakumaru

Yakumaru is a sorcerer who views the Simurians with deep suspicion bordering on outright hostility. Working to clear cursed spirits from the dangerous Tokyo exclusion zone, he panics when he believes Cross is reaching for a weapon during a tense standoff and shoots him twice in the chest — precisely at the moment tensions were finally beginning to de-escalate. Dabura removes his shooting arm in retaliation. His colleagues largely regard the incident as something Yakumaru brought upon himself. Yakumaru is not a villain in any traditional sense; he is a frightened person who made an irreversible mistake at the worst possible moment. The series does not excuse him, but it does not reduce him to a symbol either. His action is a warning about what fear can do at the exact moment cooperation becomes possible.
