Mahito is the Special Grade Cursed Spirit who served as one of the most prominent antagonists of the original Jujutsu Kaisen series, responsible for the death of Junpei Yoshino and the near-death of Nobara Kugisaki. He returns in Modulo — the first exorcised cursed spirit to reincarnate in the sequel — briefly appearing in a single panel in Chapter 7 before playing a pivotal role in Chapter 22. Maru restores him to full power as a component of the Harmony ritual, using Mahito's Idle Transfiguration amplified by Yuta's cursed energy to alter the souls of the Japanese population so that future generations will not produce cursed energy. Mahito's deployment as a tool for peace — a spirit whose entire original arc was defined by the horror of soul-manipulation — is one of Modulo's most deliberate and unsettling ironies. The ethics are never fully resolved, which is precisely the point.
Mahito's technique that allows him to alter the shape of souls, and by extension the bodies of anyone he touches. In Modulo, this technique is amplified massively by the Naunax's mul and Yuta Okkotsu's stored cursed energy, enabling it to affect tens of thousands of souls simultaneously as part of Maru's Harmony ritual.
